Preview of Art: November 12th!

JULIANNA BIERNACKI is a textile artist currently living and working in Hamilton, ON.  Julianna creates handmade tufted rug pieces that, as a medium, explore the intersection between craft and fine art. She is interested in blending these terms and bringing traditional craft practices such as rug making, crochet, sewing, etc. and presenting them in a fine arts context. This changes their functional purpose and reassigns it an alternate purpose.

Using intersection as an exploration in her medium, Julianna is also thinking about it conceptually in her work. Her work often reflects upon the intersection of cities, mainly using Hamilton as her muse, she is fascinated by this city’s ability to be both industrial and residential, to have grit, but to also be earnest. She navigates this further through intersections of private and public space and how these terms can be flipped or amalgamated together.

Julianna is the solo curator at Durand Coffee where she invites artists to exhibit on a bi-monthly basis for themed group shows. She also founded and hosts 'Open Window artist talks' at Rooney’s café where artists are invited to speak about their practice.

One-of-a-kind and super cool art gifts are being created by Julianna - and they will go fast!
