Collection: LORRAINE ROY

LORRAINE ROY  Art Textile / Wall Sculpture Artist (Dundas, ON.)

With roots in rural Southwestern Ontario, Lorraine Roy completed an Honours B.Sc. in Horticultural Science before opting for a professional career in art textiles. Taught to sew from the age of six, her artistic spirit was kindled when introduced to hand embroidery. Always experimenting in the medium, she eventually devised sewing machine techniques that allow her to ‘paint’ with fabric.

Her current work explores connections between art, science, and nature. Much of her imagery centers around the biology, mythology and cultural impact of trees, classic symbols of our connection with the natural world. By studying new scientific discoveries, relevant literature, and environmental impacts, she continues to accumulate new knowledge and insights to better address and convey our mutual rich and complex kinship.

While always working on her evolving art practice and private commissions, Lorraine is also an engaging public speaker for artists in all media, gardeners, science enthusiasts and spiritual groups. She is the happy recipient of several public grants, and her work is featured in collections worldwide.
